A Practical Look at Contemporary Endodontic Practice

Dr. Mike Horrocks

This hands-on course will highlight the background to endodontic disease and how successful treatment is related to predictable consistent canal shaping combined with efficient canal disinfection with irrigants. We will look at clinical cases to demonstrate how important it is to understand the endodontic disease process and manage this with evidence based clinical protocols. The hands-on course will review the latest generation of ductile nickel titanium files with enhanced strength and flexibility, which allows in many cases one rotary file to prepare most canals safely and efficiently.

In conjunction with canal shaping, a simple irrigation protocol that is both clinically sound, simple to practise, and will suit most of your cases will be described. The hands-on course will conclude with an overview on the requirements for an ideal obturation. This will be discussed together with the issues relating to the latest trends in obturation techniques, including the single matched cone technique and a review of contemporary endodontic sealers. The core is hands-on demonstrations and practice which will allow you to develop a safe, well established clinical protocol that will suit most automated canal preparation systems.

      You will learn:

      • Different concepts of canal shaping and the importance of consistent canal shaping.
      • How to decide which canal shaping technique is appropriate for individual cases.
      • How to make obturation easy and indications for the use of different obturation techniques.
      • How to get an awareness of obturation materials including contemporary sealers.
      • Hands-on: About predictable protocol for canal shaping as well as avoiding ledges and canal blockages.
      • Hands-on: How to appreciate the importance of coronal and straight line access.
      • Hands-on: About the relevance of the glide path.
      • Hands-on: How to easily predict obturation.

Dr. Anette Lund Wittorff, Dr. Jette Nedergaard, CDT Ketil Sørensen

      Lasers in Dentistry workshop

      Dr. Zaid Adel

Lasers are changing the dental industry radically for dental practitioners and patients. At this hands-on course, you will learn how you can integrate laser dentistry into your practice on a daily basis. This informative session will prepare dentists and specialists with insight on all the benefits of this exciting technology and laser-tissue-interaction. You will not only gain intellectual understanding of lasers, but also practical guidance, demonstration, and hands-on experience of lasers.

The participants will test the Biolase Er,Cr;YSGG lasers (Biolase Waterlase iPlus and Express) as well as 940 nm Diode Lasers (Biolase Epic X and Epic Pro) on exctracted teeth and sheeps’ jaw bone for soft and hard tissue experience.

        You will learn:

        • Why you should use a laser and not stick to traditional tools only.
        • How the different types of lasers work.
        • How to integrate laser dentistry into your practice - on a clinical and a financial level.
        • About laser applications in Perio and Periimplantitis treatment.
        • About endodontic treatment (cleaning and disinfection).
        • About surgical procedures (eg. gingivectomy, frenectomy, biopsy).
        • About other treatments (eg. apthous ulcers, cold sores, troughing, coagulation, dry-sockets, teeth whitening,
        • de-bonding cemented crown/veneers, etc.).
        • About the important aspects on deciding which laser to purchase - wavelength, versatility, training, support, and marketing.
        • Hands-on: Delegates will test the lasers, diode and erbium, hands-on on a sheep or pig jaw bone.

If interested, the workshop qualifies you to further diode training through the World Clinical Laser Institute and BIOLASE followed by the opportunity to do the WCLI exam for Associate Fellowship Certification.
