3Shape - The Digital Journey

Exclusively for the Nordic 3Shape TRIOS Community

"3Shape - The Digital Journey" is a 2 day course, which is held 1-2 June 2018. It is exclusively for the Nordic 3Shape TRIOS Community. Through the two days, you will learn about:

  • Digital Socket Shield Technique - Dr. Francisco Teixera Barbosa.
  • Analogue vs. Digital Dentistry - Dr. Nazariy Mykhaylyuk.
  • Occlusion, Aesthetics and the Digital Revolution - Dr. Ian Buckle.
  • 3D Planning in Implant Dentistry and CAD/CAM Technologies in Prosthodontics - Dr. Timo Suojärvi.

Digital Socket Shield Technique

Dr. Francisco Teixera Barbosa

Socket shield is a treatment option not yet validated in the long term in the scientific literature. So far, all the publications reported cases with an analogical workflow.

During this lecture it will be explained the technique using digital scanning and the advantages of performing this technique with digital impressions and CAD/CAM restorations.

You will learn:

  • What happens after an extraction.
  • What kind of techniques can be performed using PET (Partial Extraction Technique) protocol.
  • The advantages of using digital tools in a socket shield approach.
  • Step-by-step of the technique.

Analogue vs. Digital Dentistry

Dr. Nazariy Mykhaylyuk

For many years we were improving analogue protocols to get better precisions, esthetics, workflow and results overall. Planning, mock-up, preparation, impressions, bonding. Seems like everything now is complete and we reached the finish line... But no. New era is here - we are going digital. Why? Predictable, fast, repeatable.

This and much more will be discussed. We will compare strong and weak sides of both - analogue and digital protocols to have a clear vision of future in dentistry. And the answer is only one - you will find out on June 1st.

You will learn:

  • Team building for digital dentistry.
  • Scanning strategies.
  • Preparation under microscope.
  • Individual designs.
  • 3D staining.
  • Bonding protocols.

Occlusion, Aesthetics and the Digital Revolution

Dr. Ian Buckle

Digital technology is revolutionising dentistry and dental practices. There is no doubt that it can improve accuracy, efficiency and productivity but if we are not careful it could just get us into trouble more quickly.

In this presentation Dr. Buckle will discuss the technology available to aid us in examination, record collection, and diagnosis. He will then demonstrate how to use this information, blending digital with time tested conventional methods, to develop a treatment plan that will produce beautiful aesthetics based on sound occlusal principles. Finally, Dr. Buckle will discuss how to use digital solutions to deliver the proposed treatment.

You will learn:

  • The Concept of Complete Dentistry.
  • How to use digital technology to aid examination and diagnosis.
  • Four occlusal goals for predictable success.
  • A step-by-step approach to predictable treatment planning.
  • The technology available for restorative and orthodontic procedures.

3D Planning in Implant Dentistry

Dr. Timo Suojärvi

Digital technologies have become a part of everyday life in implant dentistry. The evolution of treatment planning softwares, computer guided implantology and CAD/CAM solutions have made these tools readily available, affordable and easy to use for the restorative dentist. This lecture will present the key aspects for successful use of digital technologies in treatment planning along with the most common sources for error and how to recognize and avoid these pitfalls.

You will learn:

  • To realise indications for the use of treatment planning softwares and CAD/CAM implant guides.
  • The advantages (and possible risks) related to the use of implant planning softwares today.
  • Follow a suggested decision making process in treatment planning.
  • The key differences in digital vs. conventional workflow.

CAD/CAM Technologies in Prosthodontics

Dr. Timo Suojärvi

In prosthetic dentistry, the work in the laboratory has been in transition towards scanning and digital planning for a long time already. With the ease of use and dramatically increased accuracy of intraoral scanners, we have also entered a new era in the clinical reality of prosthodontics. This shift towards digital technologies in impression taking and CAD design also pushes the production methods towards Computer-Aided Manufacturing. In a world where our patients and their teeth (and implants) are still physical, we must be able to produce the best possible physical end result with our digital tools. Sometimes we still need working models and analog production methods in order to ensure optimal results. The production method of choice also plays a large role in our material selection. What are the limitations of CAM? How to decide the appropriate workflow, method and material in each case? How to efficiently integrate best of both worlds, digital and physical?

You will learn:

  • To have an understanding on the current literature on IO scanning.
  • To realise the potential of IO scanning in different cases (tooth, implant, emergence, pontic design).
  • The differences of production methods (substractive / additive), their characteristics and materials available.
  • To understand all parties involved in the treatment (patient, dentist, technician). Even in those chair-side cases where the dentist plays a double role.
